From exploring the historic Freedom Trail to kayaking in the Charles River, the city of Boston, Massachusetts is full of fantastic things to do and see with your dog. Along with Charleston, San Francisco, New York City and others, this could be one of the dog friendliest cities in the United States.
Dog Parks
You can’t visit Boston with your dog without a walk in either the Boston Public Garden or the Charles River Esplanade. You will have to keep your dog on a leash in these two parks but it’s well worth it. You can go off-leash in Charlesgate Dog Run, near the Charles River Esplanade. Other great dog friendly parks to check out in Boston are Peters Park Dog Run, South Boston Bark Park, and Danehy Park.
Hiking
You can’t escape the historic architecture during a visit to Boston. We recommend taking a guided tour along the Freedom Trail, which explores 16 of the city’s most famous historic landmarks. Another highly recommended dog friendly hike is Squantum Point Park in Quincy, just a few minutes from downtown Boston. This retired Naval airfield stretches along the waterfront with great views of the Boston skyline.
Dog-Friendly Restaurants & Bars
There are plenty of dog friendly restaurants and bars in Boston that cater to all kinds of food tastes. All of these recommendations allow dogs to sit at their outdoor tables. If you’re in the mood for straightforward eats, check out The Globe Bar & Cafe, Cambridge Brewing Company, Mr. Bartley's Gourmet Burgers. For the more adventurous Toro do great tapas. Veggie Galaxy is a fantastic option for vegetarians. If you’re looking for a special treat, Polka Dog Bakery have sumptuous and healthy dog treats, best of all their treats are homemade.
Boston Harbor
Explore Boston Harbor all year round by taking the dog friendly Boston Water Taxi. During the summer months you and your dog can rent a canoe or a kayak and paddle in the Charles River.
Dog-Friendly Beaches
When you think of Boston you don’t immediately think of going to the beach but during the off-season you can walk your dog on a leash on Carson Beach and Castle Island Beach. If you’re up to taking a 40 minute drive then Crane Beach is definitely worth the effort for you and your pup as it’s off-leash and one of the most beautiful beaches in the state of Massachusetts.
